Going out for a nature walk is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while taking in some beautiful scenery. If you’re fortunate enough to live in Fergus, you have several options of picturesque trails to choose from near your Williams and McDaniel apartment.
Fergus & District Community Centre Trail
The Fergus & District Community Centre Trail is a four kilometre, easy, local hike behind the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex at 550 Belsyde Ave — just a 10 to 15 minute walk from Belsyde View Apartments (175 Belsyde Ave. East, Fergus). Take a stroll through the hardwood bush forest — you may even catch a glimpse of a deer or pileated woodpecker.
Elora Cataract Trailway
The Elora Cataract Trailway is a 47 km, flat, gravel trail that is open to hikers, cyclists and wheelchairs. It follows an old railway line that once joined the Credit and Grand Rivers. The trail passes through forest and farm fields and is open year round. You can enter from the end of Hill Street, just past Beatty line — less than a 10 minute walk from Wellington Court Apartments (455-475 Maiden Lane, Fergus).
Belwood Lake Conservation Area
Belwood Lake has over 3 kilometres of trails within the park and the Elora Cataract Trail runs through the conservation area. The lake was created in 1942 with the construction of the Shand Dam. Visitors can stand on the upper deck of the dam and look out at the Grand River below. The park is just a 7 minute drive from the Executive Suites at 654 St. David North, Fergus.
Hiking one of the beautiful nature trails in Fergus is the perfect way to spend a summer day. Make sure you remember your sunscreen and bring plenty of water.
