Get outside in Fergus this winter

Belwood Lake Conservation Area

Situated east of Fergus on Belsyde Street (Wellington County Road 18), Belwood Lake Conservation Area is home to an array of activities, including ice fishing, snowshoeing, hiking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Admission is $3.00 for children 6-14, $5.75 for adults, $4.75 for 65+ and free for children 5 and under and the conservation is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For information on Belwood’s other activities, consult their Winter Activities Update. The Wellington Court Apartments and Executive Suites are a nine and seven-minute drive away, respectively.


Laurel Creek Conservation Area

Located at 625 Westmount Road North in Waterloo, Laurel Creek Conservation Area is a great place to get out and explore during the winter months. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are a few activities you can try on the conservation ground’s 4.5 kilometers of trails. Pick up your snowshoes, skates and winter equipment at Play It Again Sports located at 218 Silvercreek Parkway North in Guelph, which is 20 minutes away from the Fergus Apartments. If you aren’t ready to purchase any equipment, you can rent it from the facilities. During the week hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on the weekend hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Prices for admission are $5.50 for adults, $2.75 for children (6-14), $4.75 for 65+ and free for children 5 and under. Both of the Fergus apartments are a 35-minute drive from Laurel Creek.


Elora Cataract Trail

All parts of the Elora Cataract Trail are open to walkers, hikers, skiers, snowshoers and particular sections are designated for snowmobilers. The 47-kilometre trail connects two major watersheds, the Grand River and Credit River and also passes through Elora, Belwood and Hillsburgh. Grab your equipment and head to the trail, which is a five-minute drive from the Wellington Court Apartments and an eight-minute drive from the Executive Suites.


Elora Gorge

The Elora Gorge boasts a 20-metre waterfall and limestone cliffs, but during the winter months it is known for its hiking, walking and snowshoeing. If you’re in need of equipment, Canadian Tire located at 950 Tower Street South has a large selection of outerwear and gear for whatever winter activity you’re planning. The store is a three-minute drive and 13-minute walk from the Executive Suites and a four-minute drive and 25-minute walk from the Wellington Court Apartments. Located at 21 Wellington County Road 18, the Gorge is less than a 30-minute drive from the Fergus Apartments.
